The Role

The Senior Financial Analyst provides advanced support through all phases of the financial planning and analysis processes and aims to be a significant contributor to the Finance team.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the execution of financial planning and analysis processes, projects, and ad-hoc requests as required by the Finance organization by embracing the following responsibilities:

Ownership of timely end-to-end month-end reporting, identification of key financial variance drivers, as well as communication of effective, value-add insight that will help identify key focus areas for management and help drive decision-making (e.g., tie conclusions back to budget / forecast expectations)

Provide advanced support on the input, consolidation and modelling of forecast and budget projections in both Excel and Moody’s financial reporting system, including recommendations for adjustments based on historical trends and business knowledge

Provide advanced support on business planning processes and deliverables through the development and/or updates of financial models; deliver driver-based presentation outputs for discussion with senior management

Partner with local, regional and global contacts within the Finance team and communicate effectively with the business to foster good working relationships with the rest of the organization

Provide support on the development of new reporting solutions and identifying key focus areas for management

Recommend and implement best practices for continuous enhancements to current processes and reporting, including identifying areas for productivity and driving the standardization of activities across Business Planning to harness efficiencies

Conduct financial KPIs analysis, compare anticipated and actual results, conduct thorough research of historical financial data and trends to identify and recommend areas of improvement to offer value-added insights into drivers

Develop and update financial models to assist in strategic initiatives and support critical decisions through financial projections and KPIs

Provide support to FP&A team in meetings with stakeholders, remaining present and engaged in all discussions. Take detailed notes, collect notes from other attendees and summarize for manager to share back with all stakeholders.

Provide informal guidance or on the job training to other team members

Collaborate on special projects as assigned by Finance management

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of extensive relevant experience in financial modelling and analysis, and in Excel best practices including use of advanced functions, pivot tables, etc.
  • Experience in business intelligence tools, multidimensional forecasting and reporting applications (e.g. OneStream, Hyperion Planning, Essbase) is a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Excellent verbal & written English skills
  • Detail- and data quality-oriented
  • Strongly capable of summarizing and effectively communicating findings/analysis to senior stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (preferably: Office 365) and related financial systems
  • Advanced analytical decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Undergraduate qualification in Finance, Accounting, Statistics or other quantitative field

  • Great attention to detail and able to cross check outputs with other data sources; complete recurring processes while avoiding errors and seeking areas for process improvement
  • Proactive and curious mindset (e.g., learning about the broader Moody’s business, checking on mid-month balances, validating figures to ensure consistency and accuracy, etc.)
  • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team by interacting and collaborating with members of other teams across the organization
  • Demonstrates flexibility with last minute changes in commitments, deadlines and meetings attendance
  • Applies knowledge and intermediate problem solving techniques to define and resolve problem
  • Able to handle large volumes of data while ensuring data accuracy, including the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to draw conclusions and assist with decision-making
  • Able to provide intermediate/advanced support to the business planning processes and deliverables
